FIRST WORDS OF NOTEBOOK Feb 1991:

The Union Jack flies over the offie on South Street
the window on the train says, ‘BECLAWAT’
A man with a polypropylene sack full of lumps across his shoulder
walks away from the railway
over the rubble of a collapsed wall & through the gap
or maybe that’s the shape of his head

The Railway Man
The Woolpack
No Smoking
Penalty £50 maximum

Last night we watched a copper chase a bloke
in Liverpool street station
“Stop him! Stop him! Stop him!”

A builder in an orange day-glow vest
gave him a rugby tackle
it was weet
a thrill
they hit the fresh marble & rolled
