Tuesday 6th February

BROOM HIDING IN A DOORWAY:

Good morning Steven,
Oh you’re so sweet,
You want time to do the honours again,
Don’t you?

A woman walks in slow with hair like clouds,
Happy to see a dog in a coat,
The dog jumps up,
And dances around,
Knocking everything over,
But it doesn’t matter,
There are bigger fish to fry,
Everything perfect has become uncertain,

A woman makes a humming sound,
To accompany the craving of a thin man in Black,
Walking on stilts,
Shooting glances,
A flashing light on his back,
A warning,
A waving,
Look at me I’m here!
I’m leaving,

You can’t beat the fishes,
Click-cklick-click,
Unpacking these electric things,
Amazing numbers,
Unlocking seasons,
Paper dogs that beg for money,
Causes,
Struggles,
Internet vigilantes

Monday 5th February

THE MUSIC OF ASSORTED PEPPERS:

A man walks in,
Another man says his name,
Unshaven,
The first man looks around,
Sits down,

A man walks in,
His name is Pete,
A man says,
“I guess you don’t get much time to run around” to him,
I woman walks in,
Dressed Black,
Patiently unzipping a purse,

And everything is French,
Though this country isn’t,
And ‘what can I get you?’,

Money is exchanged,
Laughter is heard,
Banging & hissing,
A door is opened,
The woman is leaving,
Through a sea of jazz,
A woman walks in,
With a dog in a coat,
Makes another woman talk in a Mickey Mouse voice,

A man disappears ,
A man leaves the city to become a farmer,
It makes him feel better,
A boy appears in uniform,
To the music of deserts,
Makes me wish I was standing in the Sahara,
No,
Makes me wish I had a desert living in a spare bedroom,
So I could go there,
When I needed silence,
Not the kind of silence that makes me feel alone,
The kind that makes me feel connected to the world

Sunday 4th February

A PRIVATE CORNER:

He didn’t give up,
He just carried on,
His second job was in a really rubbish place,
It was terrible,
Though there were nice people,

One Saturday,
He was working as the bailiffs were removing stock,
And people hung around by the bins at the back,
Doing stuff he didn’t want to see,
Now he was in a nice place,
Safe,
Clean,
He laughed,
Recounting stories,
Looking back,
Remembering

Saturday 3rd February

TAP TAP TAP:

People are like music,
Dots in a landscape,
I could play them,
If they stood still long enough

I’m with the King & Queen of Manchester,
And a can of something cold,
It came out of a tree,
On a tropical island,

White sand,
Warm breeze,
Everything chilled out,
A photograph of imaginary healing,

A kinder state of mind,
A song sung in a language I don’t understand,
But makes me feel good,
Sitting here in Manchester with the King & Queen

Friday 2nd February

A STICK BOX IN THIN AIR:

It’s been raining here,
Now the sun’s out,
Heat on the skin through glass,
And a fast moving world on the other side,

Do you know my name?
A hundred days,
Parallel rivers,
Junked cars climb into the sky,
Restrained by heavy arms,
The smell of oil & Yellow,
The smell of machine,
Exciting,
Arriving,
The lady with the big bag take away all my troubles,
Always smiling

Thursday 1st February

LIVE SPORT IN THE BAR:

Looking at all the fast stuff,
I feel humanity,
Morality,
Fragility,
Disconnected,
The sound of an alarm announcing something coming,
Weights & measures,
Lives in the balance,
Perpetual,
Evergreen,

I think you’ve been hacked,
Somebody’s accessing your identity,
Asking me for money,
The signal keeps dipping in-&-out,
Something’s happening here,
Something’s been compromised

(Listengin to: Aksak Maboul – ‘Un peu de l’âme des bandits‘)

Wednesday 31st January

SUNRISE:

Hand over mouth,
Bird from the sky,
Walks around under the table,
Waiting for a train,
Illuminated number,
Caller,
Rail-rider,
A paper bag left unattended in a public place,

The memory,
Fear & insecurity,
Solidarity,
Distraction,
The world in a ruc-sac,
Slung on the back of look-around eyes,
A phone that wont stop ringing,

A cancelled train to a tunnel,
A night of joy & celebration,
Your name,
Called by a stranger in a crowd,
The name of a city near where I was born,
Called by a pre-recorded voice,
A tone so beautifully soporific,
I’m in danger of missing the train

Tuesday 30th January

HOME:

I know nothing about most things,
Behind the scenes,
Still breathing,
A chance,
A dream,
A Red hat moving back & forth,
Not lost,
Just looking,
A place to discard unwanted things,
Everywhere is locked,
The dices have been loaded,
Tables turned,
Driven by motives,
The wolves demand blood,
Out on the digital super highway,
Compassion,
It got it’s own imogee

Sunday 28th January

A FIXED LUMINOUS POINT IN THE SKY:

I’m taking notes,
Sitting at the back,
Trying not to get noticed,
Everyone distracted,
Everybody fiddling with electric things,
But it’s ok,
There’s beauty in the basement with a skylight,
Soothing,
The crap they serve up in this city,
Would be fed to animals out in the fields

(Listening to: Kim Myhr – ‘You | Me’)
