Saturday 28th March

PALLADIUM KOLN:

Empty streets on the edge of town, old industrial architecture
reborn, rebranded, dancing with the ghosts of industry.
Trucks reverse to kiss the lips of loading docks, disgorging
heavy metal, blacktop inset with rails, torn strips of hazard tape
flap in gentle breezes like pony club rosettes tied to galvanised
crowd control barriers stacked against factory walls, red brick,
precision engineered, catching the first rays of the sun.
Heavy bread, real scrambled egg, crisp strips of salty bacon,
glistening in steaming trays, juices, fruits & tiny cakes.
The Angels of catering greet us, smile in languages, delivering us
from chocolate temptation in t-shirts, jeans & last night’s hair,
more fabulous than catwalk models, build cairns from salt, pepper,
ketchup & tulips to remind us others passed this way before.

  1. You are so near but so far away and…for me, that i can’t be there and see you.
It makes me feel sad and darkgrey, leiden wie hund,

  2. Karl, it was a treat meeting you in person, on the edge in Koln town. Thank you so much for your time and the crew’s. I tried to find Steve but couldn’t. Sorry I wasn’t able to say a proper thanks and goodbye. The show last night was of course amazing. My group danced their socks off. Looking forward to the Bowl and onward. Hopefully I can say hi then. Keep in touch and have a safe journey home! Best, Thomas

  4. Man… thanks for a fantastic show in Köln! All the banging tunes were there, as energetic as ever. Tracks like Dark & Long, Cowgirl, Rez, and Born Slippy will never get out of date.

The first Underworld track I ever heard was Spoon Deep on BFBS in Steve Mason’s Top 20 of 1994. I instantly fell in love with it and never stopped listening to your music.

All the best to you guys, hope to see & hear you again soon!

PS: Glad to hear the food in Cologne was better than in Luxembourg 🙂

  5. My mind has been uneasy the last few days. While I was standing in the crowd attending your concert, my mom died after a very short fight against cancer. I wish I haven’t been there but I thought, before I drove to Köln, that we will at least have this summer so that I can be the son she always wanted me to be. No one could have known that she’ll pass so quickly.
I’ve read your comments about Köln and the industrial architecture – it’s strange how parallel human lives are. Completely unaware of each other and somehow connected in a very vague sense. Your words rested my mind for a couple of seconds. Thanks for that.
